Two heavy announcements landed on the same Monday, and both of them point straight at California. Papa Roach is bringing its Rise of the Roach tour back to the US next summer with Ice Nine Kills along for the ride. System of a Down booked the Rose Bowl, and Pierce The Veil is opening. If you'd shown that lineup to fifteen-year-old me, hair in my eyes in a Minneapolis basement, I'd have assumed you made it up. And heads up: tomorrow, Friday, October 23, is the big ticket morning for both.
Papa Roach: 30 dates, two in California
According to Pollstar, the 2027 Rise of the Roach run is 30 US dates from May 11 in Biloxi to June 27 at White River Amphitheatre in Washington, with Ice Nine Kills and Ninth Key as support. It follows a 34-date US run under the same name in 2025. The California stops are:
- Thu, June 18: Ontario, Toyota Arena
- Thu, June 24: Sacramento, Golden 1 Center
That Sacramento night is basically a hometown show for a band that came out of the Sacramento area.
Ticket timing: the Spotify and artist presales opened Tuesday, and more presales have been running all week. General on-sale is tomorrow, Friday, October 23 at 10 a.m. local time. Pollstar also reports that $1 from every ticket goes to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which I think is worth mentioning.
Jacoby Shaddix's line in the announcement was "We can't wait to get out there and infest America again." Fair enough. Papa Roach has been a gateway band for a lot of people my age, and Ice Nine Kills on the same bill is a nice bridge to the metalcore kids who came later.
System of a Down: one US show, one stadium
ThePRP reports that System of a Down will play the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on June 5, 2027. It's their one and only US show of the year, and their first LA-area show since 2022. The reveal came after a week of logo projections, poster snipes and a countdown site. The artist presale is also tomorrow, Friday, October 23 at 10 a.m. Pacific, so if you haven't signed up yet, do it today at signup.livenation.com/systemofadown. General on-sale is Monday, October 26 at 10 a.m. Pacific.
Then there's Pierce The Veil. Confession: I spent more of my early twenties than I'd like to admit screaming along to post-hardcore in somebody's Honda Civic. Seeing them open a stadium for a band that defined late-'90s and early-2000s heavy music feels like two eras of my CD binder shaking hands.
One logistics note: if you want Papa Roach and System of a Down, both sales open at 10 a.m. Friday. Decide with your crew tonight who's buying which.
What these shows mean for your own band
I won't pretend to know what's on either band's stage. Nobody has published a 2027 rig rundown yet, and I'm not going to make one up. What I can tell you is what these shows have in common, and what that means if a June night at the Rose Bowl makes you want to book practice the next morning.
Vocals that get through the wall of sound. Both bands live on loud stages and big, shouted hooks. Without the right mic, your singer gets buried or you fight feedback all night. The Shure BETA 58A is a high-output supercardioid dynamic vocal mic. Its tighter pickup pattern maximizes gain before feedback when the wedges and the drummer are right behind you, and the hardened steel mesh grille and shock mount hold up to the kind of abuse heavy singers dish out.
A wedge you can actually hear. Half of screaming in tune is hearing yourself. The RCF NX 912-SMA is a 2,100-watt active stage monitor with a 12-inch woofer and a 1.75-inch compression driver, in a low profile that sits out of the way onstage. RCF's FiRPHASE processing keeps the sound clean and clear. It can also do double duty as a main speaker or a top box over a sub for small rooms.
Record every rehearsal. The fastest way to get tighter is to listen back. The Zoom F3 is a compact, battery-powered recorder with two locking XLR inputs and 32-bit float recording, so it captures everything from a quiet intro to a full-band breakdown without clipping or fiddling with levels. Set it up in the corner of the practice room, hit record and be honest with yourselves on the drive home.
The short version
Papa Roach goes on general sale tomorrow, Friday, October 23 at 10 a.m. System of a Down's presale is the same morning, with general on-sale the following Monday. If you're in SoCal, June 2027 is shaping up to be loud. If these announcements have you itching to get your own band tighter before summer, the gear above is a solid start, and it ships fast from California, with next-day delivery in the continental US. See you in the pit, or at least in the merch line.
